MODERATORS

1 year ago #twitter and #reddit were my top social media sites. Now I don't even contemplate returning to either. The #fediverse has completely scratched those itches. Between @elk and @syncforlemmy, nothing is different from a UI perspective. Community is healthier in the fediverse. So thank you to everyone here who builds out infrastructure, tooling, and community for the fediverse. I appreciate it.

Same, and I have a, what? 16 year old reddit account? Top 1% of Karma? Was in a lot of the exclusive groups like centuryclub, top, etc. etc.

Way to drive away your user base, reddit!

It was kind of like an abusive relationship where I was looking for the last straw so I could leave with anger rather than with any sort of regret or opportunity to consider going back.

@jordanlund Didn't even realize you replied from lemmy. Good lord, these centralized apps don't stand a chance.

This thread would've been a Twitter screenshot posted on Reddit I never would've seen. Now I can reply and follow you based on engagement from a different "platform". So cool.

@jordanlund I think that's why the fediverse is going to win. The self sabotaging habits of these centralized platforms for their bottom line only makes the fediverse more compelling.

Every misstep in a centralized app is a growth opportunity for the fediverse.
Whereas every misstep for a particular community in the fediverse just strengthens the decentralization of the fediverse.

People will always get dissatisfied with admins and move; at least the fediverse is designed with that in mind.

What I explained on reddit, before I left, is that their entire business model depends on monetizing free user submitted content, controlled by free user based moderation.

That model is INFINITELY replaceable. See digg, fark, slashdot.

You want your moderators to toe the business line but they aren't employees and you aren't paying them? Good luck with that!

Does everyone else see @null as OP's instance in Sync?

Is there an open issue for this?

[–] JackHPeterson@mastodon.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@can I'm in mastodon, so it might be an issue with the lemmy/mastodon connection. What client are you using?

[–] SideshowBoz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Same, am on iPhone, and the number of Lemmy/Mastodon/Fediverse apps available feels like it’s 2009 all over again πŸ₯²

I'm looking forward to a more mature fediverse where everyone can find their place, with no one complaining about lack of content or unfair bans. If some lemmy admins don't like you and your subs, you can move to an instance that does.
