Second obtainium. I had been looking for an app that does what it does exactly -- was super happy to find it and have it work pretty well.

[–] 299792458ms@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

Antennapod is so damn good!

[–] ouch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For some reason the Obtainium link does not work in mobile, but this one without index .html does: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/dev.imranr.obtainium.fdroid/

[–] Matt@lemdro.id 3 points 1 month ago

Thank you. I am not sure how that only ended up on that link.

I love syncthing. So convenient for transferring files between windows, android, and MacOS. Platform agnostic is the best.

Obtanium is awesome too for simplifying the process of updating apks from github.

DAVx5 came bundled with e/OS when I changed over but I've had no luck getting it going and I struggle to follow the guide. Would you happen to know of like an idiot's guide to getting started with it? Or could someone perhaps briefly summarise how to get going with it?

Bitwarden. There's no excuse not to use a password manager.

[–] Tamo240@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Single point of failure for all my usernames and passwords? No thanks

[–] ouch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I used to think like that and only used pass. Then I stopped worrying and decided to trust the crypto.

You can keep your 2FA tokens in a separate app.

[–] LouNeko@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's why you use 2-factor-authentication

1List is the best list-making app I've tried that's open source. Really polished and quick.

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.lolo.io.onelist/

Along those same lines, Notally is the best note taking app I've tried.

https://f-droid.org/packages/com.omgodse.notally/

And since someone else mentioned Voyager, I'll mention Eternity as well!

https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.toldi.infinityforlemmy/

Lastly, Weawow is the best weather app I've used, though Quickweather on f-droid is a close second (but requires an API key to work, so bit of a hassle to set up).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weawow&hl=en-US

[–] gingerman@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I like the look of both of these but do you know a way to sync them with a PC?

[–] GlenRambo@jlai.lu 2 points 1 month ago

You can use Syncthing (the fork on FDroid is better) and Obsidian (for the notes). You can also use obsidian services (might be paid) for the sync but its easy enough to do yourself.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago

I don't believe so. The only options I see in the settings is the ability to export and import lists and notes manually with a file.

[–] voracread@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is there an apk for the dialer?

[–] Stomata@buddyverse.one 2 points 1 month ago

Yes. You can install droid-ify and add calyx os repo named "The calyx Institute Fdroid repo (testing) . And search for Dialer and directly install it from there

[–] 0x0@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What's your favourite free Android app?

[–] Stomata@buddyverse.one 1 points 1 month ago

All of these

[–] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago

FDroid itself

Running useful CLI programs. A non exhaustive list:

  • ssh
    • Operating remote machines over ssh
    • Port forwarding to remote machines
  • iperf
  • ping
  • nmap
  • pandoc

Quillpad https://www.f-droid.org/en/packages/io.github.quillpad/

It's a nice simple Google keep replacement.

A lot of bangers in the comments, but I didn't see my favorite!

container (kinda) for your apps https://f-droid.org/packages/com.oasisfeng.island.fdroid/

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And its sibling Shelter. Don't know which one is more up-to-date lately.

[–] clmbmb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Looks like Insular has a more recent release: may 2024, and Shelter has the last in december 2023.

  • Signal ^signal.org↗^ - Free, open source, completely end-to-end encrypted messaging that lead by a non-profit.
  • Shelter ^f-droid.org↗^ - Use Android's built-in "Work Profile" feature to install or clone apps into an isolated space.
  • Simplex ^f-droid.org↗^ - Like Signal but for the more paranoid. Not as good from a UX perspective so I can't recommend it to everyone, but definitely just as good if privacy/security is your ultimate requirement.
[–] Qkall@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

how does shelter differ from insular - assuming you know. I just haven't seen that one and am curious

English Dictionary Offline: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=livio.pack.lang.en_US . Still unbloated after all these years.

Librera (ebook reader): https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.foobnix.pro.pdf.reader/ . The pro version is free on f-droid, or you can buy it on Google Play if you want to support the dev.

Fossify Gallery: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.gallery/ . This is a fork of the old Simple Gallery from before it got bought out. Same deal with Fossify File Manager and the other Fossify apps. Just no-nonsense functional apps.

Librera (ebook reader)

Does it do OPDS for Calibre integration? I don't see that in the features.
