Hey I figured I'd make a post and see the state of current lemmy appage, since I'm looking for a good one. So far I've used Jerboa, Thunder, Eternity, and Voyager.

Eternity seems to be a dead project, it's full of bugs and hasn't recieved an update since The Exodus

Thunder seems ok and is what I'm using right now, but I can't seem to send direct messages, and can't "Don't blur NSFW preview on NSFW comms" which sucks. The messaging is the dealbreaker for me.

Voyager I used momentarily but the UI was not my favorite.

Jerboa seems OK if unpolished (which is ok to me) but I don't trust the rabid idealogue that makes it and using another instance of his site is one thing, but installing an app is another. Has it been audited to confirm lack of spyware?

Ideally through this I can find one with instance blocking, DMs, and a decent UI. What're your experiences with the current state of lemmy apps?

The websites all work perfectly fine.

Eternity received an update fairly recently

After Raccon4Lemmy dies. !summit@lemmy.world is best for me. It's closed source though but it doesn't show any ads unlike some other popular Lemmy apps.

"The reports of RaccoonForLemmy's death were greatly exaggerated."

It's back: !raccoonforlemmyapp@lemmy.world

Anyone else get a lot of “Failed to load media” messages on images? I particularly see them on science memes in both Voyager and Arctic on iOS. Haven’t tested on android yet.

All the time on science memes, try going back to 'best of all time'. It can also make modding on mobile quite a pain, when you as a mod can't see the post. Though the failed to load media is, what I have heard not due to the app itself but that the link in the post is broken and the app just has not indexed the post yet. Which is why other apps may show the post correctly because they indexed it before the link broke. However I can not remember where I read that. So it might be completely false.

I've tried Boost, Connect, Eternity, Jerboa, Liftoff, Summit, Sync, Thunder, and Voyager.

My favourites are Eternity and Thunder. Eternity is the only app I've found with "swipe between posts" navigation. Thunder has the best remote instance link handling, and its tools for inserting usernames and community names are better than even the Lemmy web UI.

I'm using Jerboa but wasn't aware of any issues with the devs. As far as I know the app works great. Can you go into that a little more or point somewhere to read about it?

I normally just use Jerboa but I've been trying Raccoon recently and it's been really good. It's definitely still beta and some formatting doesn't work but each update has made it significantly better so it's definitely worth checking out because the UI is the best of any of the apps I've tried imo

try connect

Voyager is the best

So far voyager is working for me, but the UI leaves a lot desired. The reply icon looks like a share icon.
