AA24 - Day 4 - Between Two Ferns

Two incroyable fougère scents. However, in spite the strong scent from Varen, the stank on this brush is getting worse, not better!

Edge Condition Album

Another terrific shave. This setup is really being good to me right now. I'd say that this shave was closer than my typical BBS shave. My typical shave is not on a new edge, and I am adapting to the edge I put on this razor.

Even though I'm not stropping, I do not notice any lack of comfort or sharpness ... yet. I will say that even when I do strop, I start wanting that "new edge" feel around 10 shaves on a straight. Wouldn't it be interesting if I find that the stropping I've been doing is actually detrimental to edge duration? OK, in some nerd universe, yes, interesting, but to a normal person, probably not.

Sunday, August 4, 2024: Austerity - Living Off the Land

  • Brush: Yaqi 24mm Synthetic Panda
  • Razor: King C. Gillette DE Razor
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (23)
  • Lather: Haslinger Algae
  • Postshave: Williams Aqua Velva
  • Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm

This is actually the second shave in my living off the land challenge, but I didn't find the time to post my shave yesterday. The KC Gillette is a very mild razor, and combined with an old blade, the result doesn't hold very long (even though immediately after shaving, it is ok). Haslinger's Algae is slightly drying, but it gets its job done.

Have a good night!

Day 4/31 of Looking for Serenity in Austerity

  • Brush: Semogue Owner's Club (cherry wood and boar) (4)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 50 (7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel, masonic deco) (2)
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice
  • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice

Late evening shave after a day visiting different playgrounds with Djunior. I think I'm missing some of the beauty of Roman Spice with these evening shaves before bed, but it's also difficult to motivate myself to wake up early for them. Luxury problems.

The brush is coming along, but it's still in a state where it's difficult to imagine that I'll like it as much as my Zeniths. We shall see.

The SOC boars are very backbony, but after 50 uses, you will see that it's one of the best boars around. It has a very different feel from the Zenith, though.

I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome!

04.08.2024 - Blu Tobacco, second shave

  • Prep: cold water
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: snapped BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Brush: RazoRock 400 Noir SE 24 mm
  • Lather: Abbate Y La Mantia - Blu Tobacco
  • Post Shave: Thayer's Original toner; Natura Siberica ASB gel

-> 2 pass head shave, very comfortable and refreshing.

Second use of AYLM Blu Tobacco after only dry shaving my head for a few days. A cool contrast! This was much closer.

Blu Tobacco is by all means a good soap. Not extraordinary in any category, but good. The scent is to me a perfect summer variant of HoMs Tobacconist, as the added menthol and maritime notes are definitely a good choice for warmer weather. It's still surprising how easy this hard soap is to lather with synthetic brushes, this one just explodes after a 10 second load. Had enough to do two passes on my head, so I did to not waste any of the good stuff. Really good that our BVWSC event made me curious about AYLM soaps - this one's a real great scent, plus a travel friendly aluminium tin and puck size.
