Micromatic 3/7: A Clog-Pruf Tabac Tuesday

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf, first generation, NOS
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Aftershave: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original

I literally don’t understand why people even make razors anymore since razor-making reached its zenith in the 1940s with the GEM Clog Pruf. - @merikus@sub.wetshaving.social

Great shave with the 1ˢᵗ gen Clog-Pruf (the middle child of the Micromatic family) and the Stank®. The brush keeps shedding large amounts of bristles, it's time to order a replacement knot and hope it arrives before this brush goes bald.

I can thoroughly agree with merikus' statement. GEM razors in particular are a great piece of engineering - still working flawlessly despite being almost (or in some cases over) 100 years old! Shame that DE blades took over in terms of popularity and availability. It's really hard to find good GEM blades over here nowadays.

Sorry to hear about your knot going bald 😔 as a headshaver, I can sympathise with it but unfortunately it won't yield the same good results as a full brush knot. Hope your replacement arrives in a timely manner!

Are you familiar with connaught shaving in the UK? They sell 100 packs for £14 and ship to Europe for £2, so even with the high import duties in the EU, it's a great way to get enough blades for years of shaving at a cheap price per blade.

Hope your replacement arrives in a timely manner!

Thanks!

I got a 100-pack by "Nassrasur-Shop" from Germany around 2021 and those still serve me well, but the shop owner is kind of... ugh. So my next replacement order will definitely be from Connaught, Thanks!
