Hey everyone. I just migrated from reddit and wanted to say hello. I was on the wetshaving sub for several years but I gave myself a new (but slightly related) username when I came here, so people are likely to not recognize me.
Anyway, is there anything I should know about using lemmy that differs from reddit? I see that SOTD posts and questions still go in their daily threads, anything else I should know?
(Also, I apologize if this question doesn’t belong here. I see that there’s both a Wednesday Daily Question Thread and a Welcome Wednesday, and this seemed the better place to post my comment. But let me know if there’s somewhere else this should go.)
Welcome! I decided to break out these two threads (Welcome Wednesday and DQT) to make creating the bot easier, honestly.
We tried to set this up as similar to the /r/WetShaving subreddit as possible. The main difference is that, since this is a server, we can create other subLemmys if we want. So some people have created ones for, say, !straight_razors@sub.wetshaving.social. But we’re trying to keep all of the main sub stuff here, and as similar to Reddit as possible.
Hope you enjoy this experiment!
Thanks! I’m slowly learning my way around.
Question about formatting the SOTDs, does lemmy work the same as reddit in that regard (eg using *s to get words in bold, and two spaces after a line, etc)?
The mark-up is very similar to Reddit, I've yet to find any major differences.
If you use the web interface, there is a row of little buttons underneath the text box that you can use to pick bold, italics, link, etc. I found it useful :)
Good to know, thanks! I'll try it out on my next shave tomorrow.
