Eh, nobody is going to get banned (at least not from my instance) as long as it stays inbounds.

There are well understood reasons why sexual abusers cluster into certain jobs, such as priests, but they are commonly found all over the world in every social, political, and economic class. The truth is that for for every Jerry Sandusky or Vince McMahon you hear about there's 100, or even 1000, non-famous people that you don't hear about.

I was actually referring to men.......

I also would like to see the data on how much more likely a famous/rich/powerful person is to be actually tried/prosecuted if they abused boys/men vs girls/women. It sure feels like it at least gets way more publicity when it's boys/men as victims.

You sure? I remember reading a string of articles along the lines of "female teacher sentenced for sex with boy in her class", which rather disgustingly tended to attract a lot of "nice" and "I wish I was the boy" like comments.

Am I sure about what? That men vastly outnumber women when it comes to commiting rape/sexual assault/abuse? Umm... Yeah?

Your example is part of my bigger question of "who actually gets punished vs who does the crime and how dependant is it on who is the victim."

And comments like that are disgusting. Men can and are victimized sexually and our culture treats them like it's their fault and they should have just defended themselves or maybe they actually liked it. Very similar to how many women victims are treated, and it's wrong.

No I was referring to the publicity thing. When a man does it it's not as big of a news story vs when a woman does it, as I believe to be anecdotally evidenced by the news stories I mentioned.

Oh I see, still waking up.

Yeah it's a weird and shitty side of our culture, like we are much more prone to punish women and defend young men, but only at the court stage. (I feel from personal experience, hence me wondering about the actual data.)

But it's like it isn't even about the victim since men and women both get treated like shit in reporting and getting any sort of justice, but it's almost like "while since we are here let's just have a look... Oh a woman is the bad guy? Perfect." Or "oh a bunch of young boys?!? Isn't that gay? Let's nail him to the wall" Vs the usually rich asshole abusing woman where it's like "I guess if there's enough evidence and the woman doesn't act too hysterical and we have some solid physical evidence, maybe we can do minimums... As a treat."

I know it's so much more complicated and frankly if men are getting justice good. I just want more equality within the system.

Men are not a class or one of the group, are they?

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sorry what? Are you arguing "Men" are not a group? That they can't be categorized?

[–] Llewellyn@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It sounds wrong to name half of the world population merely "a group".

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I'm really not following your argument. I don't think I have to defend the statement "Men are a group". So I won't. But if you'd like to explain your point, please feel free.
