Tab Tue 24 Sep 2024

  • Brush: Semogue Owner's Club (cherry wood and boar) (54)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 17 (NOS, 7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

A blissful early morning Stankening. The Frio edge is showing first signs of wear after 24 uses. Still comfortable, but the smooth bliss phase is at an end.

I'm not sure. That's not even one Headless Horsemen :)

I tend to just want a new edge somewhere between 12 and 15 uses. I'm convinced that most razors can easily go 30-40 uses with a good starting edge and reasonable care with stropping.

That sounds about right. But it makes me wonder whether recommending straight razors to people who don't want to hone themselves in mean 😬

Luckily, Koraats have among the most durable edges I know.

I have not taken data on this, but I’m convinced that a well formed edge will last 60-70 shaves if a loaded strop (Cr2O3) is used every 10 shaves or so in addition to regular stropping with every shave.
