Monday, August 12, 2024: Finally a post!
Despite my lack of SOTD posts, I'm not dead (yet). I had some trouble finding time for posting here, between my relocations and a car breakdown (yay!). I have no idea how many shaves this blade has already seen, but the printing is not yet very washed out, so I would guess less than 20. And good news: no frag burn so far with Amber Fougère!
Have a good evening!

Welcome back! Glad you're not dead!
Me too!
Glad to hear you're still alive, but sorry about the car breakdown. That stuff really sucks.
Amber Fougère by TGS was the first soap I used just a few times before unceremoniously dumping it in the trash bin. No skin reactions at all, but this scent is horrible IMHO. It's rare that something actually makes me cringe and choke when I sniff it, but this soap managed it. Really putrid smell. Worst of all, since I had come in contact with it in the pretty early days of my wetshaving journey, it put me off all fougeres since I thought they'd be similar to that. Oh well, live and learn 😅
I got used to the scent, even though I didn't like it at first.
But I have got either sunburn under my jawline, or irritation, froo the soap 👀
I distinctly remember that the aftershave was way worse than the soap (cause yeah, it being cheap meant I would buy a full set back then) since it was reminding me of the smell of decaying flesh.
Sunburn under the jawline is rather unusual... So far I had ears, neck, nose, top of my head (head shavers shouldn't go out without sunscreen) but never the jaw/mouth area... I'd take a guess and blame the soap unfortunately. IIRC, most of the TGS soaps are quite heavy on the fragrance component.
When I first got into this hobby Amber Fougère sounded really appealing to me, but I never bought it. Is it comparable to anything else you've tried?
I second @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social's assessment:
I don't have many fougères, so it's not rea!ly comparable to anything else I have. The scent is nice, but either too strong, or I'm reacting to an ingredient. And the base, while doing its job, is not comparable to modern artisan soaps.
TLDR: Wouldn't recommend.
Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the car break down.
How do you like the soap base ~~and scent~~? I've never tried a soap of theirs.
Edit: read comments re: scent 😅
The base has a tendency to get fluffy-but this might be a side-effect of me avoiding to really work the lather on my face. Slickness is not the best.
Ah. Not a ringing endorsement
It's cheap and available through Amazon - that's the most positive things I can say about it 🤷
