better to have the site be down with tech issues than to see the site like it is. though also, they are also surprisingly incompetent. I would not be shocked if the code or config they have makes assumptions about prods state things like:

  • most reddits esp top subs wont go offline for more than a short time
  • a regular stream of usage of ~40m+ users per day

could be many more "we don't know what we are doing" reasons too
